An electric atmosphere, heart pounding music and above all, relentlessly fierce fashion that crosses all limits of the imagination, yes the New York Fashion Week was here once again – and this time, it was even bigger, better and crazier!
New York fashion week is one of the most highly anticipated fashion weeks in the world and is a celebration of design, fashion and everything in between. It brings together the world of fashion and Hollywood for one whole week of glitz, glamour, and stardom. Aspiring designers from all over the world come with great hopes of taking back something invaluable from the creations and designs of some of the most legendary designers and brands such as Calvin Klein to Marc Jacobs to Ralph Lauren to name a few.
Other exciting aspects to look out for at NYFW are the over-the-top hairstyles and outrageous make-up looks and they get wilder every year. This year, the hair and make-up look at the NYFW fall show were nothing short of incredibly unique and marvellously creative. The hair and make-up artists backstage did a fantastic job in making sure all the models looked super glamorous from head to foot, right down to the last detail – their fingernails.
Yes, this year the celebrity nail artists at the New York Fashion Week took nail art to the next level with their funky and trendy designs. They experimented with everything from geometric patterned designs to splatters of paint and the traditional fully nude look. This year, however, saw a lot of black nail paint on the runway along with black smokey eyes and black lips. A lot of the designers’ shows were centred around the colour and theme of black too.
Let’s take a quick peek at some of the black nail paint designs that were put on display on the catwalks of NYFW fall shows:
Erin Fetherston – This designer wanted all the models to have their ring finger showcase a black metallic design while keeping the other fingernails nude. This was done to probably give the audience a certain sign or symbol about her line of clothing and to make a strong fashion statement that all women are powerful.
Marc Jacobs – Top manicurist Jin Soon donned a bold black colour on all of Marc Jacobs’ models for one of his fall collections.
Alice + Olivia – For this look, lead make-up technician Sophie Marques illuminated each of the model’s nails with two coats of beautiful black Grosvenor Crescent nail paint by Nails Inc finishing off with a light coating of rose gold colour.
Prabal Gurung – Again top manicurist Jin Soon used her magic to deck up the models fingernails with a dark grey base and a swish of navy blue in the middle. Apparently she wanted the nail pattern to look like a slit. These colours were used to complement Gurung’s collection which collaborated with Sally Hansen’s clothing line.
Marissa Webb – Another top manicurist Miss Pop played with colours, by first applying a thin strip of paper down the centre of each model’s nail before using the colour Light My Sapphire by OPI. The look had a very matte and velvety finish.
